Task Week(s)

In place of this years 2 seater competition, Wolds Gliding Club will be hosting 2 task weeks in August (for members only):

  • Monday 10th August - Saturday 15th August (inclusive)

  • Monday 24th August - Saturday 29th August (inclusive)

A task week is a great time to try a bit of cross country flying. All members are welcome - regardless of experience. We will have instructors available for those who want to fly dual plus dedicated ‘retrieve crews’ for when people land out.

Each morning there will be 3 ‘tasks’ set (Novice, Intermediate and Expert.) A task is simply a set of ‘turn points’ (places on the map) that the pilots must fly around in sequence - as fast as possible. At the end of each day, pilots will upload their trace (GPS positions) to the BGA website and the next morning the winners will be announced.

August is a fantastic time to fly cross country - the weather is (usually) good and most of the crops have been harvested ( leaving lots of nice stubble fields to land in!) If you haven’t really gone cross country before then this is the time to try it. If you have, then this is your chance to hone your skills - and go up against the experts.

Closer to the time we will roll out a way to book your place on the grid (and reserve any club gliders / instructors you may need.) In the meantime, it would be useful if you could register your interest below - so we can start planning (even if you don’t want to fly but can help out with retrieves etc.)

NB: Club flying will run alongside the tasks (i.e. some club gliders will be reserved for club flying.)
